Be Covered Texas is an education and outreach campaign that helps Texans benefit from new health insurance opportunities. The campaign reaches people where they live, work, learn, worship, text and tweet to help uninsured Texans understand how to access individual health insurance options, and newly insured Texans how to most effectively use their health care coverage. The campaign and its 180 community partners work with individuals and organizations to provide user-friendly bilingual information and community support with the ultimate goal of helping Texans “Be Covered.” The campaign is fully funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.

Campaign Elements

Our website is an information hub for families and individuals seeking to understand how to use their insurance, how to live healthier lives and for those without coverage, resources to prepare for the next enrollment period. The bilingual website features user-friendly content, Q and A’s, Ten Tips, Health Insurance Starter Kits, testimonials, resource links, and online tools to help so that families can get the most out of their coverage.

Neighbor to Neighbor – Spread the Word Campaign
Be Covered Texas will make a concentrated effort to encourage neighbors to talk to neighbors about the new health care law. Everyone we engage at events, online, through neighborhood organizations can connect their friends, colleagues and family to the campaign’s resources at their doors, at the office, through social networks, and by word of mouth.



“Best of Blue” Clinical Distinction Award

As a result of the support and efforts of community partners, like you, the Be Covered Texas campaign was recognized by The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association with the 2014 “Best of Blue” Clinical Distinction Award. The award highlights a Blue Cross Blue Shield program that exemplifies the company’s vision and commitment to positively impacting healthcare delivery.
The Be Covered Texas campaign has already reached more than 3.29 million people through community and civic partnerships, community events, and distribution of educational materials. The campaign reached an additional 7.7 million through online engagement and media coverage. We have partnered with more than 160 community and civic organizations like yours to reach people through credible channels with messages that are relevant to them on a local and personal level. Our community partnerships are a fundamental piece of the Be Covered Campaign and we would not have been recognized if it weren’t for your ongoing support.


Non Profit Award at the 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration

This past Saturday, January 17, Be Covered won the Non Profit Award at the 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration held at the MLK Jr. Community Center. The Community Center is an active Be Covered partner and was one of our first partners.
Be Covered was nominated for the Non Profit of the Year Award for our support of events held at the Community Center throughout the fiscal year of 2013-2014. These events include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration, Black History Month Activities, Juneteenth Celebration, Summer Fan Program, Hispanic Heritage Program, Thanksgiving Food Baskets, Thanksgiving Feed the Homeless, and the Christmas Toy Drive.
Three other organizations were also nominated: Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, The Family Place and New El Bethel Baptist Church. Be Covered team member, Joyce Campbell, accepted the award on the program’s behalf Saturday night.
